KATE’S EASTENDERS PLOT TWIST
EASTENDERS is getting a new boss in the shape of former Coronation Street producer Kate Oates. Kate, 39, will join the BBC series at the end of the year, four months after she announced her departure from the rival ITV soap. Under her supervision Corrie rose in the ratings but the success came at a price when the soap’s die-hard fanbase shared their anger over Kate’s focus on more modern storylines including sex trafficking and male rape. Kate will also oversee hospital dramas Holby City and Casualty. Speaking about her new role she said: “Working across EastEnders, Casualty and Holby City is an amazing opportunity for me to have creative input into three of the UK’s leading dramas. “I’m excited about meeting the teams and talent behind each show and can’t wait to get stuck in and tell some unmissable stories.”
