Opportunities to fund care for elderly going to waste
WE don’t have to spend more on funding elderly care. At the moment it is funded from the elderly’s accrued wealth or by local authorities, cross-subsidised by carers accepting low pay.
The fairest way would be to increase income tax. But why not try a tax that could achieve more?
Local councils collect rubbish. If we created a tax to pay for that, money saved could go on elderly care. That tax could be levied at the point of sale. It could pay for collections and even dumped or fly-tipped rubbish.
The levy could be set according to how easy it is to dispose of things in a green way with items that can only go into landfill attracting the highest charge.
