We get footage removed ...and stop spread of evil
THE Daily Express investigation revealed that vile Islamic State inspired videos were left available for viewing on Facebook for as long as four months.
Yet within two hours of our contacting the tech giant to alert them to their presence, they were all removed.
Our investigators catalogued the contents and history of five sick extremist films that had been seen, shared and “liked” thousands of times on the social media platform.
Facebook claims it employs experts to ensure error related material does not get passed around. But we were easily able to find hate-filled propaganda on the site.
The deeply disturbing film showing British-educated IS executioner Mohammed Emwazi, or “Jihadi John” as he became known, decapitating American aid worker Peter Kassig, had been left untouched by moderators since April.
The film showing a man having his hand cut off in public was viewed 2,700 times.
And the clip showing IS fighters storming an Iraqi security forces building and shooting Iraqi soldiers was watched 4,000 times. It attracted 94 “likes” and was shared by 163 people.
We contacted Facebook yesterday to raise concerns that the five terror videos were still live and available to be seen. The company said in response that it uses technology to identify, review and remove extremist content proactively and employs dedicated teams to stop the spread of terrorist material. Facebook said: “We work aggressively to combat extremism and make the platform a hostile place for terrorists.
“We invest heavily in specialist teams, expert partnerships and new technology to identify, review and remove extremist content, and we remove 99 per cent of ISIS and Al Qaeda content before it is ever reported to us.
“The videos reported to us by the Daily Express have been removed.”
