- By Frances Millar

CHERYL Tweedy confirmed her prime time TV comeback on BBC One’s new Saturday night talent show The Greatest Dancer yesterday.

The former Girls Aloud singer, 35, posted a short video for her 3.8 million Instagram followers, filmed backstage as she prepared for her new role as dance captain on the programme.

Speaking direct to camera in a corridor in Birmingham’s International Convention Centre, she said: “Hi, so I’ve got some exciting news. I am going to be joining a new show called The Greatest Dancer for BBC One.”

She confirmed that Strictly’s professional dancer Oti Mabuse, 28, and Glee actor Matthew Morrison, 39, will be joining her as dance captains, while BGT judge Alesha Dixon, 39, and Diversity dancer Jordan Banjo, 25, will host the series due to air next year.

The Greatest Dancer will feature a host of talent from across the world of dance from ballet to jazz, hip-hop to Bollywood.

As a dance captain, Cheryl will have the job of whittling down acts at the audition stage, before picking who she wants to mentor and guide through to the live shows.

Clearly delighted to get back to work after announcing her split from singer Liam Payne, 24, last month with whom she has 17-month-old son Bear, she added: “From my own dance background, I know the dedication and commitment dancing takes, I can’t wait to get started.”
