Glenn moved by The Wife film

-

& IT’S proving to be a rather eventful time for Richard Gere. It was recently revealed he is expecting his first child with 35-year-old wife Alejandra Silva and now he is being considered as a Democratic Party candidate in New York State.

The current congressman Sean Patrick Maloney is now running to become a state attorney next month and if he wins will have to vacate his seat, which is where 68-yearold Richard could fill in.

Joe DeStefano, Mayor of Middletown in the same region, thinks the Pretty Woman star could be a good fit, saying: “Richard Gere’s name is being whispered among Democrats. We’ll see what he’s made of.”

Watch this space. GLENN CLOSE reckons the “MeToo movement” played a huge part in getting her latest film, The Wife, made after almost a decade and a half in the pipeline.

The film sees Glenn play Joan Castleman, a writer who shelves her dreams to support her Nobel Prizewinning author husband, Joe (Jonathan Pryce).

And discussing why The Wife – which Meg Wolitzer had written the book for and for which Jane Anderson had penned the screenplay 14 years ago – took so long to go from script to screen, the 71-yearold told Day & Night: “I think it’s incredible that the film has come out now.

“A movie called The Wife starring a woman with a woman trying to produce it, took 14 years to make. That represents why we need a ‘MeToo movement’.”

Speaking at London’s Somerset House

which hosted the movie’s UK premiere, the Fatal Attraction star added: “But we’re also here having done the film, having represented what I hope will lead to more of these kinds of movies.”

And for the Tony Award-winning actress, it has been gratifying to hear people praise this latest work, calling it an important and compelling story.

“In a lot of screenings I’ve heard people say this is like the kind of movie that used to be made. It’s a human story and it’s something you can intellectually get involved in.

“To be a part of that and if that’s a movement: fabulous! There are many reasons why we need to inspire people and comfort each other."

The Wife will open in cinemas on September 2.

SOPHIE ELLISBEXTOR is pregnant with her fifth child. The singer, who has four sons with husband Richard Jones, confirmed she is expecting to hear the pitter-patter of tiny feet shortly but doesn’t know if this will be a boy or girl. Discussing her new album the 39-year-old, who is the daughter of former Blue Peter presenter said: “The album will come out around the same time as my fifth infant because I’m having my fifth baby. Mental!” When asked if it gets easier with this being her fifth she replied: “No, I don’t think it does but I think you get more relaxed with the chaos. “I’ve just had a week away with Richard and five kids because our eldest brought a mate. I took a book, which now seems like the most optimistic thing I could have done because it didn’t even get opened.”
