QUEEN’S DOCTOR DIES IN HORROR CRASH

- By Richard Palmer Royal Correspondent

A DOCTOR who served the Queen was killed when he was struck by a lorry as he cycled to work.

Peter Fisher, 67, had been her homeopathic physician in the royal medical household for 15 years.

He was commuting in London when he collided with a builder’s truck.

Buckingham Palace said that the Queen had been informed of the death of Dr Fisher.

He was a world expert in homeopathy and director of research at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine.

Dr Fisher was cycling from his home in Highgate, north London, when he was in a crash with a lorry belonging to CCF, a subsidiary of builders merchants Travis Perkins, at 9.30am on Wednesday.

Respected

Dr Gill Gaskin, a medical director for University College London Hospitals where Dr Fisher worked for more than 35 years, said: “We are all deeply shocked and saddened”.

“He was an international figure in homeopathy who was committed to holistic and compassionate care for his patients.

“He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and patients alike.”

Sir Marcus Setchell, 74, the Queen’s former surgeon-gynaecologist, said: “He was much respected as a good doctor who saw homeopathy as complementary to medical care. We are all shocked by his tragic loss.” Dr Fisher was the eighth cyclist to be killed in London this year and the fifth to die in a collision with a truck.

A witness described her horror at the scene of the crash in Holborn, central London.

Angie Bozianu, 29, manager of the Princess Louise pub, said that medics gave Dr Fisher CPR before and after he was pulled from under the wheel of the lorry.

She said: “I was sleeping and I heard screaming. A lady was screaming and it wasn’t good.

“The second I looked out of my window I saw a man under the wheel. He wasn’t moving. The wheel was over his side.

“People were gathering around him, they tried to give him first aid and CPR and between five and 10 minutes later the ambulance came.

“They tried CPR and managed to pull him out and again gave him CPR for half an hour or maybe more.

“I looked away but when I looked back he was on the side, covered.”

Scotland Yard, who appealed for witnesses to contact them, said the lorry driver stopped at the scene, assisted police with their inquiries and has not been arrested.

A spokesman for CCF said: “We are working closely with the police as part of the investigation to determine exactly what happened.”
