Man on murder charge after nurse in BGT final found stabbed to death

- By Cyril Dixon

A NURSE who starred in this year’s Britain’s Got Talent final was named yesterday as the victim of a knife murder.

Simonne Kerr won the hearts of millions when she appeared before BGT giants Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden in health workers’ choir B Positive.

The 31-year-old had joined the crusading group of singers after the death of her son Kavele, six, from sepsis.

Mrs Kerr was found stabbed to death on Wednesday at her flat in Battersea, south-west London.

Friends from the choir, composed of NHS and blood transfusion workers, were said to be devastated by the news.

One said: “Simonne was such a lovely woman.

“After Kavele’s death she was determined to turn her sorrow into something positive.

“She loved the family atmosphere within the choir, and the fact that they were all supporting each other through singing.”

Mrs Kerr worked at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital, central London, as a haematology and oncology nurse and had moved to Battersea only recently.

Her son Kavele suffered from sickle cell anaemia and died in 2015 after developing sepsis.

The choir lost in the final to Lost Voice Guy Lee Ridley, but their performance captured the hearts of viewers.

Speaking before the final, she said: “When I’m with the choir, I look either side of me and see new friends who have been affected by the same disease which took Kavele.

“When we sing, we sing with real feeling that comes from the bottom of our souls.”

Last night Scotland Yard charged Desmond Sylva, 40, with murder following the incident.
