guy is going to say ‘we like it’, another guy will say ‘no’.”

Guardiola switched his focus on two of his classiest players, David Silva and Aguero.

He revealed he had invited Silva’s wife and baby son Mateo – who had to fight for his life after being born 11 weeks prematurely last December – into the dressing room after the game to share the celebrations.

“It was a special day for David,” he said. “Last season was a tough moment for all his family. Fortunately his little boy fought a lot and is here. He will never forget the first time he saw his father play football – he produced an outstanding performance and goal.”

Guardiola believes club record scorer Aguero will be even sharper this season after surgery towards the end of last season to clear up a nagging knee problem.

“The surgery helped a lot,” he said. “He feels free now, he suffered in the last few years with problems. I’m not going to demand he is more clinical – three goals a game is OK!”

Huddersfield have conceded nine goals in their first two games but manager David Wagner defended goalkeeper Ben Hamer, who made mistakes for two of City’s first three goals.

“Ben made some mistakes but some great saves as well,” said Wagner.

“He is a very self-critical player and there will be no problem there. It was an afternoon where we didn’t support him enough.

“City were top quality and we were second best. Last season we conceded some heavy defeats to the top-six clubs and that experience will help us.

“You can’t get driven away by heavy defeats. Our season starts now.”
