Wilder goads Joshua

- Richard Tanner Chris McKenna Matthew Dunn

DEONTAY WILDER taunted Anthony Joshua by saying the British boxer will be jealous when he watches his Las Vegas showdown with Tyson Fury.

After beating Francesco Pianeta in Belfast on Saturday, former world heavyweight champion Fury will face WBC title holder Wilder in a clash worth more than £30million this November. Wilder said: “They’re envious. It feels good.”

WBA, WBO and IBF title holder Joshua failed to agree a deal for a unification fight with Wilder and takes on Alexander Povetkin next month instead. There has been talk of the pair fighting in April at Wembley if Wilder beats Fury, but the American thinks he has made other plans.

Wilder said: “Tyson felt sorry people were laughing at the UK – and they are, because of the big facade they’ve built around Joshua. For him to let people down in that way and not fight the best, it put a sour taste in people’s mouths. Especially in America. It has really damaged his name. He looks like a protected fighter.” PEP GUARDIOLA hit back at Jose Mourinho as Manchester City showed their class and rapped out an emphatic statement of title intent by mauling Huddersfield 6-1 yesterday.

City produced the perfect response to United manager Mourinho accusing them of lacking class because he felt he had been disrespected in their new fly-on-the-wall documentary series.

After Sergio Aguero had scored his 13th hat-trick for the club, Guardiola produced a sarcastic response to Mourinho’s words that no matter how much money you have, you cannot buy class.

“That’s true,” said Guardiola, “I agree with Jose, you cannot buy class. But I don’t agree with Jose in terms of being disrespectful to them [United]. This was not our intention, it was just to film what happened last season.

“I think we lived an amazing season last season and there were cameras. We are a club who are trying to grow, to try to win titles, like all the big clubs in the world, and we did it for ourselves, for the fans, to show what happened in our locker room.

“Of course, the opponents are there [in the film] but it’s Jose’s opinion. Another PAUL POGBA says Manchester United fans have every right to feel “mad” at the players after slamming his team-mates’ attitude in the 3-2 defeat by Brighton at the Amex Stadium yesterday. United captain Pogba even held his own hand up and admitted he did not do well enough, saying this was a wake-up call to players who need to have more pride in wearing the famous shirt. “I’m very honest and we always play for the shirt and play for the fans and this is not the result that we wanted and not the result they wanted,” said Pogba. “They should be very mad today. We are very mad, everybody is very mad. “They had more hunger than us. I put myself first, that my attitude wasn’t right. We made mistakes we shouldn’t make. The next
