Sterling back on Real radar

- David Anderson

REAL MADRID have renewed their interest in Manchester City and England star Raheem Sterling.

Forward Sterling has two years left on his deal with City but talks over a new contract have stalled and Real are monitoring developments, although they will not make a bid before the Spanish transfer window closes this week.

Scouts from Real are expected to be at Wembley to watch England against Spain on September 8, when Sterling is expected to feature. City have tied many of their stars to long-term contracts, with Kevin De Bruyne signing a six-year deal that will eventually see him earn up to £350,000 a week.

Sterling, who joined City from Liverpool three years ago, is understood to be on half that amound and is looking for a pay hike. He scored 23 goals in 46 matches in all competitions as City won the Premier League title with 100 points and also lifted the Carabao Cup last season. READING manager Paul Clement has told his players they must improve their dismal home form – starting against Premier League Watford tonight in the Carabao Cup. The Royals have not won a Championship game at the Madejski Stadium since April, and Clement, left, said: “We need to sort our home form out. Then the points you pick up away become really great.”

QPR manager Steve McClaren plans to raid former club Derby to bring in midfielders Ikechi Anya and George Thorne on loan.
