Life for IS fanatic in plot to behead May

- By John Twomey

AN ISLAMIC State fanatic who plotted to behead Theresa May in a Downing Street attack may never be freed, a judge said yesterday.

Naa’imur Rahman, 21, wanted to storm 10 Downing Street armed with a knife, gun and pepper spray after blowing up the security gates with a bomb. He knew the plan meant suicide but he dreamed of infamy and martyrdom, the Old Bailey heard.

The would-be suicide killer’s other plans included wiping out MPs in a gas tanker blast close to the Palace of Westminster and blitzing MI5’s London headquarters in a mass drone attack.

He was jailed for life yesterday and told he must serve at least 30 years before he can be freed on parole.

But Mr Justice Haddon-Cave said it may never be safe to free Rahman.

He said: “He is a very dangerous individual and it is difficult to predict when, or if, he will become de-radicalised.” Rahman, of Finchley, north London, was found guilty of terrorist offences in July.

He was caught in an undercover “sting” operation, the jury was told.

Convinced he was talking to IS sympathisers, Rahman ended up discussing his murderous plans with MI5 and FBI agents.

On November 18 last year, Rahman carried out reconnaissance around Whitehall.

Two days later, he handed over a coat and a rucksack during a meeting in Brixton, south London.

They were returned to him on November 28 – packed with dummy explosives.

Rahman told his IS “contact” he was “good to go” but was arrested in Kensington, west London, while carrying the fake bomb.

He wanted to avenge the death of an uncle who died fighting for IS in Syria last year.
