Winless Wagner is not panicking yet

- David Anderson

DAVID WAGNER says Huddersfield will not panic because of their poor start.

The Terriers are winless, with one point and one goal in the Premier League this season.

They have scored in just seven of their 20 league games in 2018 and kept only four clean sheets.

“First of all the stats are right,” said the Huddersfield manager. “The stats are the truth, but will they always give you the true information about success or no success? No.

“Stats don’t guarantee that you will know who will be successful and who won’t, especially in the next game.

“If you ask me am I happy about this, I say no. But does it mean we have to change anything or start to over-think or panic? No. The biggest confidence I get is out of this dressing room.

“Even in these early days there’s an atmosphere to work and make the hard yards.

“There’s no pressure. I feel excitement for the next game – Goodison Park, Everton, there’s nothing better. Come on!”

Everton counterpart Marco Silva says the refusal to sell Ademola Lookman the club bullied in market.

It was claimed in Germany that Leipzig had lodged a £23million offer for the England U21 international.

Silva poured scorn on that figure and bluntly told any clubs trying to land Everton’s stars that they are wasting their time.

He said: “You think it was a very good offer? I disagree completely shows that will not be the transfer with the offer but it is not my job to talk about the money.

“We have to be strong and keep our idea about what we want. It’s not just Lookman, it is all of them – we have to keep the players we believe can develop and help our squad.”

Lookman could come straight into the team this afternoon, with Silva saying he is a possible replacement for the suspended Brazilian Richarlison.
