Tyler on target for double tops

-

LEEDS easily avenged their Carabao Cup defeat by Preston with a 3-0 victory to leave Alex Neil’s side without a league win since the opening day.

Tyler Roberts scored his first two Leeds goals since his £2.5million January switch from West Brom to send the Elland Road side three points clear at the top.

Ezgjan Alioski had the ball in the net early on only for the effort to be chalked off by a late offside flag, but the home side went ahead from a corner after 37 minutes when Liam Cooper connected with a header, which Declan Rudd could only parry home off a post.

Leeds eased off and Callum Robinson had an effort for Preston disallowed by another late offside flag as the visitors rallied.

Roberts got a second in the 74th minute with a beautiful dinked finish from Kalvin Phillips’ through ball and he wrapped up the points eight minutes later when he headed in from close range.

Aston Villa beat Rotherham 2-0 to move into the play-off places, with Steve Bruce’s two latest signings both bagging home debut goals.

Loanees Tammy Abraham and Yannick Bolasie struck either side of half-time to give Bruce a welcome boost after some travelling fans called for his head at Blackburn on Saturday.

Villa went ahead on 28 minutes as Jonathan Kodjia set up Abraham for a cool finish and with eight minutes remaining Bolasie headed home.

Jay Rodriguez struck twice as West Brom beat Bristol City 4-2 to send the Baggies into third spot. Dwight Gayle and Harvey Barnes were also on target.
