I talk to my dead parents says TV’s Simon

- By Peter Dyke

THE X Factor boss Simon Cowell has revealed that he still talks to his dead mum and dad.

TV’s Mr Nasty lost his father Eric in 1999 just before he became a household name on TV’s Pop Idol. His mother Julie died in 2015.

Cowell claims he likes to chat to his parents about big personal and professional decisions.

The TV and music mogul opens up to 25-year-old singer-songwriter J-Sol on the show tonight.

J-Sol tells the panel how his mum Victoria died in 2015 but before she passed away she told him that he needed to give The X Factor a go. After performing an emotional self-penned song, Cowell tells him: “I talk to my mum every day, and my dad. Every decision you want to make, you always talk to them.

“I understand how difficult that would have been to perform. That was an amazing audition. This is something we will all remember.”

The other judges were also in tears over J-Sol’s story and his song.

One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, whose mum Johannah died from cancer in 2016, gives him a hug and tells him: “That was moving for me. I lost my mum as well. You did an amazing job, well done.”

And tearful Ayda Field tells him: “In 2014 I lost my father very unexpectedly. I just want to thank you because that was a beautiful song and a powerful song and I know your mum would be really proud of you. Thank you.”

Former X Factor chart-topper Chico Slimani has suffered a stroke at the age of 47 on the way back from performing at a gig. He was yesterday undergoing tests in hospital, his publicist said.

The show is on ITV tonight at 8.35pm
