Sir Cliff blasts BBC on eve of UK tour

-

HE HAS been keeping tight-lipped lately but Ant McPartlin has broken his silence to wish best pal and telly co-host

Declan Donnelly a happy 43rd birthday. Taking to Twitter, the 42-year-old, left – who has had a difficult year since going to rehab for addiction issues and splitting from wife Lisa

Armstrong – wrote this week: “Happy Birthday from the big one to the little one!”

Ant, who last week celebrated six months of being sober, also shared a funny throwback photo of pal Dec poking his head through a hanger in a red and black flamenco dress.

As Day & Night has reported, Dec will be joined by Holly Willoughby for I’m A Celeb’s next series – and it’s all change at home for the birthday boy who welcomed first child

Isla with wife Ali Astall just three weeks ago. Fans of the pair will be relieved to see Ant’s bond with longtime buddy Dec as strong as ever. HE’S busy rehearsing for his upcoming UK tour – but Sir

still made sure to find the time to take a swipe at the BBC over its reporting of a raid on his home four years ago.

Sir Cliff won a privacy case against the national broadcaster earlier this summer, for which he was awarded an initial £210,000 in damages.

And writing in his unreleased tour programme – which Day & Night has got hold of – the 77-year-old blasts: “So much has happened in the last year. I won my court case against the BBC and the relief was indescribable. I will face you, on tour this year, with four horrific years well and truly behind me.” The star, whose 16-date run will kick off in Dublin on Saturday, insists his fans’ backing has been a huge boost throughout the ordeal.

“I will never be able to thank you enough for your solid support,” adds Sir Cliff – whose career has spanned six decades, with UK number one singles in five consecutive decades. “We will give you a taste of my new CD, entitled Rise UP, to be released on November 23.”

And the tour programme even includes a message from the law firm Sir Cliff employed to take on the Beeb in court.

“Congratulations, Sir Cliff, on your 60th Anniversary Tour. From Simkins LLP, supporting you since the beginning.”

& SUSANNA REID

has revealed her secret to losing two stone over the summer.

The 47-year-old Good Morning Britain host – who went teetotal in her bid to stay in tip-top shape – said: “It’s not just cutting alcohol that has done it; it’s cutting out eating between meals, which can be tricky when you’re up at 4am and grabbing calories to keep going.”

While fans may not be shocked to hear that Susanna’s not snacking in the mornings – as the thought of seeing co-host PIERS MORGAN doing his make-up may be enough to kill even the hardiest soul’s appetite – the former BBC woman does have some post-show treats.

“When I go home, I could say ‘I’m starving,’ and eat half a packet of Rich Teas. Instead I toast a bit of rye bread and have it with poached egg and avocado,” she adds.

& MEL B

thought Geri Horner had been kidnapped when she suddenly quit the Spice

Girls. The Wannabe hitmaker, left, was so shocked to find out her bandmate had walked away from the group back in May 1998 that she thought the worst. “It was my birthday. I thought of all days she’s leaving – on my birthday,” says Mel, 43, who reveals the other bandmates Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham were also stunned. “I think we were in Oslo. What bothered me wasn’t [just] the fact that she left but the fact she didn’t come to me because I considered her my best friend… She was just gone.

“We searched for her in the hotel and couldn’t find her. She’d got herself on a flight and headed back to England… [I thought she was] kidnapped or something. We were all kind of a bit frantic. And then we found out she’d gotten a flight and headed back to England…

“I do understand [the reason she left] on a certain level but it was just horrendous for me.”
