‘The boys are not learning’

Mourinho was furious at Pogba’s mistake before Wolves’ equaliser on Saturday – and further angered when he criticised United’s tactics.

Following the 1-1 draw, Pogba said he wanted the team to be able to “attack, attack, attack” at Old Trafford. “We are at home and we should play much better against Wolves,” he said. “We are here to attack.” Pogba tried to play down his comments in a tweet but that did not appease Mourinho.

Ashley Young led out United last night, and in his programme notes Mourinho said he was unhappy with some members of his squad.

“The game against Wolves was an important lesson; a lesson that some boys are not learning,” wrote Mourinho. “Every team who play Manchester United are playing the game of their lives, and we need to match that level of aggression.”

Pogba was dropped several times last season when Mourinho was infuriated by his inconsistency and lack of defensive discipline.

The Frenchman has been one of United’s best players this season and was given the armband when Antonio Valencia was missing.

But after this kick in the teeth, Pogba may decide his relationship with Mourinho is irreparable.
