Frantic hunt for student missing after night walk

- By Mark Cardwell

THE parents of a new student missing for a week have made a desperate plea to find him

Thomas Jones, 18, had been on a freshers’ night out with friends when he disappeared as he made his way back to university halls in Worcester shortly before 4am last Wednesday.

His mum Vicki, 53, and father Ian, 50, said they spoke to Thomas that evening and he said he was “safe”.

He also sent a Snapchat picture message to friends on his way home and phoned a flatmate at 3.48am to say he was “two minutes away”.

Memory

Mrs Jones said: “We are going out of our minds. We have to keep retracing his steps and ask people to dig deep in their memory banks.

“Anything, however small, might be the piece of the jigsaw that helps us. We have not heard from anyone out that night.”

Mr Jones said: “There is always somebody who knows something.

“We want to do anything at all that might jog people’s memories.”

Thomas, who is studying primary education, moved from nearby Bromsgrove to the city three days earlier.

He had been at Velvet nightclub in the city centre and McDonald’s at around 3am. He then walked towards the St John’s campus and messaged friends from near the racecourse.

Police say he crossed Sabrina bridge over the river Severn before walking along a path at the top of the Hylton Road flood defences.

Thomas, described as 5ft 5in, slim, with short brown hair and greygreen eyes, was wearing pale jeans, a blue zip-up top and green shoes when he went missing.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 431s.
