Pulis pulls on the positives

- Ian Murtagh

TONY PULIS says Middlesbrough’s glass is still very much half full despite just one league win in their past five games.

Boro face Ipswich at Portman Road tonight having slipped to third in the table following their 1-1 draw at struggling Hull last Saturday. Pulis has already pinpointed a lack of goals as a potential threat to their promotion chances, with just four coming since August 18.

But despite the goals having dried up, the Boro boss is adamant the pros outweigh the cons.

“Look at the season so far and you’ve got to be positive,” said Pulis, who will be without the suspended Adam Clayton tonight.

“We’re in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup and are in the top three, just a couple of points off top spot. So we have made a fantastic start to the season.

“The thing is everyone wants to do better, everyone wants more all the time and I completely understand that.” Pulis is looking for his side to be more ruthless in front of goal, having spurned numerous chances in recent weeks.

He said: “We’ve got to go to Ipswich and make sure that when the chances come along, we take them.

“We could also do with a break because we haven’t had an ounce of good fortune so far this season.

“Even on Saturday, a couple of incidents could easily have gone our way but they didn’t.”
