TV host Ruth: Varnished truth of my healthy glow

- By News Reporter

TELEVISION anchor Ruth Langsford has revealed her secret for maintaining a healthy glow in the winter months – a fake tan.

Ruth, 58, who gets up at 5am every Friday to present ITV’s This Morning, says she also moisturises regularly and puts cream on her feet and elbows every night.

She keeps her tresses glossy with nourishing coconut masks, and of diet she says: “Good food is good for everything; good for your skin, and good for your soul.”

The mother of one says once her summer glow fades, she starts to use fake tan but believes diet can also have an effect on her looks, making sure she eats a variety of colourful fruit and vegetables.

She says it is important to keep drinking water for a healthy glow, even when the temperature drops, and adds a little fresh lemon. Ruth advises: “The first thing is to moisturise more in winter. Do it more than you think you need.

“I always moisturise my elbows and hands each night before bed. It’s something my mum did.

“As soon as the cold weather starts and the central heating goes on, my mantra is to moisturise, moisturise and moisturise.

“I always start using hair masks in winter, as I’m often under studio lights and central heating. So I apply a coconut oil hair mask, a face mask, and smother myself in a rich body moisturiser and let all that sink in while I relax with the Sunday papers and my family.”

Her favourite moisturiser is an inexpensive brand.

She says: “I’m able to afford facials when I want them but I like affordable skin care, you really don’t have to spend a fortune.

“I don’t have a lot of time but who doesn’t like a lovely facial?

“That said, I’m far more likely to do it myself and I’ve turned Sundays into my ‘home beauty spa’.”

● Ruth joined almost 2,000 people walking to support the charity Alzheimer’s Society last month.

She said: “I’m so happy to have been a part of the Epsom Memory Walk alongside everyone fighting for the same cause.

When my Dad was diagnosed with dementia my family felt lost but that was 16 years ago and thanks to the Alzheimer’s Society things have progressed.”
