‘OUT OF OFFICE...THEN THE CHORES START’

-

WORK never stops for hard-grafting mother-of-three Jessica Emery, 39.

Her eldest child Sophy, 22, has finished university and is off her hands now, but twins Charlie and Max are only 12.

Ms Emery, left, who lives in Peterborough with her sons and partner Gary, 41, works full time as a customer services manager for a white goods company.

“Life is often very hectic and I’m always juggling my professional and family responsibilities,” she said.

“My job is very busy and I enjoy it, but I don’t stop work when I leave the office, as then all the family chores start.

“The boys play sport, visit their friends and need ferrying around, there’s homework to supervise, meals to shop for and cook and the housework to do.

“Some things do get easier as the children grow up, but in other ways they seem to need you to be around more.

“There’s no doubt that employers and society are more accepting of working mums and the introduction of flexible working and decent maternity and paternity leave helps women to stay in the workplace.

“But the cost of childcare is astronomical and can’t be justified.

“The money earned by women isn’t just pin money either – millions of families need two salaries to pay the rent or the mortgage.”
