Meghan’s kindness to tearful young fan

- By Richard Palmer Royal Correspondent

THE Duchess of Sussex ran to the aid of a girl who got knocked over in the crowd yesterday during a trip to a town named by Daily Express readers.

The Duchess spotted tearful Kara Fairhall, 10, and reached out to hold her hand after a visit to a youth centre in Peacehaven, East Sussex.

Kara said: “When Meghan came over everyone rushed forward and I got pushed over. I started to cry as I was a bit upset but I wasn’t hurt.

“Meghan saw I was crying and came over to me. She took my hand and said ‘Are you OK?’ I said yes and she said, ‘It’s going to be OK’.

“My mum told her I was on my way to my dance class and Meghan told me to enjoy it. I felt a lot better afterwards and I said thank you to her.”

Earlier, Prince Harry left an “adorable” schoolgirl flustered after kissing her.

Akosua Gyasi-Addo, 13, stood open-mouthed and said: “He gave me two hugs and a kiss on the cheek. I’m never washing that cheek again. He told me, ‘Oh, you’re so adorable.’ I thought they would be all posh but they were both really nice.”

The Royals visited the Joff Youth Centre to hear young people discuss plans to make mental health the focus of national Takeover Challenge day in November.

Emma Garrood, 16, of East Sussex Youth Cabinet, told how 13 per cent of boys and 21 per cent of girls said they were quite or very unhappy with their lives in a survey of Year 10 students.

Meghan said: “That’s really impressive you remember all those stats.”

Peacehaven was named in a Daily Express competition in 1916 after landowner Charles Neville invited our readers to think up a name for his garden city by the sea.
