Khashoggi killing suspects banned from entering UK

- By Alison Little

SUSPECTS in the killing of dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi will be barred from entering Britain, Theresa May said yesterday.

The Prime Minister said the Home Office was also immediately revoking the visas of any of the suspects who currently had them.

It follows similar measures by the United States.

Turkish officials say Washington Post columnist Mr Khashoggi was tortured, murdered and dismembered by a 15-man Saudi hit squad inside the Gulf kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul three weeks ago.

Saudi Arabia denied he was dead before claiming he was murdered in a fight.

Mrs May told the House of Commons that was not “credible”. She said the UK condemned the killing “in the strongest possible terms” and she planned to speak to Saudi King Salman.

It is claimed the killers had links to Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, the king’s 33-year-old son who critics accuse of abusing his power to silence opponents.

Mrs May rejected calls to follow Germany in banning arms sales to Saudi Arabia, which is accused of targeting civilians in a civil war in Yemen.

The crown prince said yesterday, in his first public comments, that the case was “very painful, for all Saudis, not justifiable” and his country would work with Turkey to ensure justice.
