Anger as US TV goat she shot on

- By Lucinda Cameron

AN American TV presenter has sparked outrage after sharing “sickening” pictures posing with wild animals she shot in Scotland.

Larysa Switlyk, who describes herself as a “hardcore huntress” posted a photo of herself on Twitter smiling behind a wild goat.

The presenter wrote: “Beautiful wild goat here on the Island of Islay in Scotland. Such a fun hunt!! They live on the edge of the cliffs of the island and know how to hide well.

“Made a perfect 200-yard shot and dropped him! Good thing too because he could have ran off the cliff into the water.”

Another image shows her posing next to a stag, with the caption: “Can’t wait to bring it back to the castle for the chefs to cook it up!”

Twitter users called the images “sickening” and “truly abhorrent”.

They were later described as “horrific” by a Scottish government minister.

Mike Russell said Scotland’s he had contacted Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham to demand that the hunts be banned immediately.

He said: “To see people in camouflage with highly powered sniper rifles rejoicing at the killing of a goat is simply unacceptable.

“The vast majority of people would just not regard this as something that should be happening in their country.”

Sarah Moyes, of OneKind which campaigns against animal cruelty, said: “It is utterly shocking to see these images of Larysa Switlyk and other hunters posing for photos with the wild animals they killed on a recent trip to Scotland.

“Yet again, instead of celebrating Scotland’s magnificent wildlife, we are seeing these beautiful animals exploited in the name of sport.”

Several companies offer the chance to shoot wild goats, which are not protected and are regarded as an invasive, non-native species.
