Didn’t she do welly? Mighty Meghan throws for victory
THE Duchess of Sussex rose to the occasion during a “welly-wanging” contest in New Zealand yesterday.
Harry and Meghan took part during a visit to a children’s woodland charity in Redvale, near Auckland.
In spite of heavy rain, the couple took turns throwing wellies – called gum boots Down Under – as schoolchildren cheered them on.
Team Meghan emerged victorious after a deft underarm landed her boot close to the target.
Nelson Poll, 11, who was on Meghan’s team said: “I think Harry’s technique was better. It was straight forward instead of at an angle.”
But teammate Ryen Anderson, 10, said: “Meghan was asking us how to throw and we said it doesn’t matter.
“She didn’t know she could throw that far and she surprised herself.”
Earlier the couple planted trees and dedicated an area of forest to the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.
James Guild, of the QEII National Trust which oversees the initiative in New Zealand, congratulated them on their forthcoming baby.
He said: “Perhaps in future we will see Her Majesty’s great-grandchild back to check up on the covenant dedicated by his or her parents.”
Later on a walkabout in Auckland, Harry offered heartfelt advice to a boy whose mother had died.
He told Otia Nante, 12: “Life will always be all right...don’t you worry.”
