Dettori hoping to make history

- By Chris Goulding

FRANKIE DETTORI believes Enable can tread where giants have failed in the past by taking Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Turf at Churchill Downs.

The four-year-old will be hoping to become the first Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner to add a Breeders’ Cup to their CV.

“I’m aware of the fact that no horse has won an Arc and a Breeders’ Cup Turf, but records are there to be broken,” said Dettori.

“In favour of Enable, she has only raced twice this season, is very fresh in herself and seems to have travelled over well.

“She’s shown her versatility winning around Chester and Epsom and also a King George in soft ground.

“You never can be completely certain that everything is spot on, but you certainly wouldn’t suspect it [anything wrong] with this filly.”

Three years ago, Golden Horn and Dettori were expected to add to their Arc success in the Breeders’ Cup but had to settle for second place behind Found. Punters believe the John Gosden-trained filly can make history at the Louisville track in Kentucky.

She is best priced at 1-2 with Betfair and Paddy Power.

Connections of Enable have yet to decide if the filly will be kept in training next year.

Dettori has two other cracking rides on the card. Eziyra in the Filly & Mare Turf for Dermot Weld and Sir Michael Stoute’s Expert Eye in the Mile.

Like Enable, Expert Eye runs in the colours of Khalid Abdullah and Dettori is upbeat about his chance after he finished third to Recoletos in the Prix du Moulin last time out.
