Stanislas: Why we all must do better

- Alex Crook

BOURNEMOUTH midfielder Junior Stanislas has told his team-mates they need to improve after slating their performance in Tuesday’s win over Norwich.

Stanislas scored the opener as Eddie Howe’s Premier League high fliers beat the Championship visitors 2-1 to book a quarter-final place.

But Howe admitted his team were “lucky” and Stanislas said: “We were very poor. The only positive thing on the night for me personally was scoring.

“It’s hard to take positives from that performance from every one of us. We have got to do better but at least we’re in the next round and the main thing is we won.

“We have a couple of games before we can think about Wembley. They’re going to be tough whoever we get in the next round and, for starters, we have to play a lot better. We enter every competition trying to go as far as we can, so we’ll be looking to progress.”

The Cherries host Manchester United on Saturday aiming to maintain their impressive start to the league season. Stanislas added: “I’m sure United will look at us as a difficult game and a difficult place to come. But we have to be good on the day to get anything from the game.

“We have got to be very confident. We have made a good start in the league and there is no reason why we cannot continue that at the weekend.”

Howe wants to write a new chapter in Bournemouth’s history books by guiding the club to a first cup semi-final.

After League Cup quarter-final defeats by Liverpool during the 2014-15 campaign and Chelsea last season, Howe is hopeful of progressing at least one stage further.

“That would be really nice for us. I don’t know how many times we’ve made the quarter-finals, the years seem to blur into each other,” said Howe.

“We have made this step and now we want to try to go one more. The motivation is huge, the semi-final is a different level.”

The only positive is that I scored
