BURTON goalkeeper Dimitar Evtimov says he will always remember dumping Nottingham Forest out of the Carabao Cup – even though victory came with a twinge of regret.

It was Forest who gave the Bulgarian his big break in English football so making history with the Brewers came at a price.

Evtimov, 25, spent seven years as a Forest player after joining in 2011, before signing a short-term deal with the Brewers in September.

Nigel Clough’s men clinched a quarter-final spot with a thrilling 3-2 win on Tuesday and Evtimov says it was a night he will never forget.

He said, however: “I didn’t want to celebrate too much out of respect for Forest. The club mean a lot to me because they gave me the opportunity to come and play here.

“I really hope they do well and get promoted back to the Premier League because they deserve that.”

Evtimov, who is operating on a month-tomonth deal at Burton, added: “I can’t lie, I was really happy when we scored, but I tried to stay cool and wait for the final whistle.”

Evtimov revealed he had told Clough exactly how much it would mean to line up against the club who released him in the summer.

“I had a chat with the gaffer on Monday,” he said. “He completely understood me, because he used to play for Forest as well, so he knows what it means.”

Burton now tread uncharted territory with Evtimov saying: “The club have never reached this far in the competition, so it means a lot to us, the players and the fans.

“The fans here are absolutely great. Since the first day I came in, they’ve always been good to me, and hopefully it’s going to stay this way if I keep playing well.

“It means so much to the club, and to the players, even more so for me because I played against Forest, my former team, and we did really well.

“I’m going to remember this one for the rest of my life.”
