Keira sparkles in plum role as Disney fairy

- By Hanna Geissler

HOLLYWOOD star Keira Knightley looked every inch the fairytale princess last night as she attended the premiere of Disney film The Nutcracker And The Four Realms.

The British actress, 33, who plays the Sugar Plum Fairy, wore a stunning off-the-shoulder gown cinched at the waist with a pink satin ribbon.

She was joined at Vue Westfield, in Shepherd’s Bush, west London, by fellow stars Richard E Grant, 61, Ellie Bamber, 21, Misty Copeland, 36, and Omid Djalili, 53.

Keira said: “It’s a family adventure story about a girl who saves the world.

“You’ll have to watch the movie to find out how my very pink cake-like character of The Sugar Plum Fairy helps her or doesn’t.

“I am very pink. I look like a cake. My hair looks like candy floss and I am covered head-to-toe in pink glitter which my house is still covered in. You can’t get rid of it.

“There is nothing subtle about the way I look so I thought the performance should match. It probably the only opportunity I’ll have to play the pantomime dame.”

The Pirates Of The Caribbean actress said the role of the pinkhaired flying fairy gave her the chance to “become something silly and look like a cake with wings” after a particularly strenuous role on stage. She said: “They just offered it to me and I had just spent four months doing Therese Raquin on Broadway. That is a psychotic character who murders everyone and then kills herself. Then they said ‘Do you want to play the Sugar Plum Fairy?’ It was the antidote.”

The Nutcracker And The Four Realms opens in UK cinemas today.
