Sheridan tells of ‘meltdown’ after cancer death of her beloved father
so weird. How can I be here taking applause? I just thought I want to be sat with my dad, sat on his chair cuddling him.
“I ran away from that, away from that situation.
“I’ve come out the other side and I think people are very forgiving of all that, even though it’s all been in the public eye.
“Everyone has wobbles in life, don’t they?”
Sheridan cancelled appearances on stage as well as a headline slot at the Royal Variety Performance, later citing “stress and exhaustion”.
But she has now turned her life around, releasing her self-titled album of pop classics to critical acclaim in October last year and then going on a nationwide tour ran earlier this year before heading to the recording studios again.
Sheridan makes the candid comments in a new ITV documentary which sees her return to the town where she grew up.
She introduces her new second album A Northern Soul to her home town of Doncaster with a special performance in a venue close to the hearts of both Sheridan and her family.
Joining Sheridan on the poignant trip is fiance Jamie Horn.
The pair reflect on Jamie’s recent proposal and returning to Doncaster.
She also plays a gig at her father’s favourite social club, The Bentley Top Club.
Sheridan Smith: Coming Home, is on Sunday at 9.30pm on ITV.
