Tears for a beloved dad and a war of words as Strictly gets emotional

- By Gillian Crawley

DANNY John-Jules got into an explosive social media row hours before being knocked out of last night’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The show’s former professional dancer James Jordan claimed on Twitter that the Red Dwarf actor’s 82-year-old mother – who has dementia – looked as “miserable as him” as she watched her son dance on the BBC show with partner Amy Dowden on Saturday night.

John-Jules, 58, retorted: “So you take the **** out of an 82-year-old women with Alzheimer’s. #BigMan” and his wife Petula Langlais branded him “out of order” and said it was “below the belt”. Jordan hit back: “I just stated facts… said what everyone was thinking. Not attacking anyone. She did look miserable, but I’m sure she is a lovely lady.”

John-Jules and Amy got a score of 27 for their Latin number leaving them at the bottom of the leaderboard. They lost last Ashley, far left, on Saturday and, left, as a girl with Pat night’s dance off against Graeme Swann and Oti Mabuse.

Ashley Roberts paid an emotional tribute to her late father Pat, on Saturday’s show.

The Pussycat Dolls star danced her Couple’s Choice routine with Pasha Kovalev, telling viewers it was for her father who in April took his own life aged 69 after a long period of illness. He had once been a drummer with 1960s group The Mamas & The Papas but later filed for bankruptcy after the car dealership he started failed.

Ashley said: “This was a special moment within the show where you can use dance as an outlet to give and share so I hope we connected.”
