Foyth living up to boyhood favourite

- Darren Lewis

IF he blossoms into half as big a talent as the man he copied as a kid, Juan Foyth is going to have one hell of a career at Tottenham.

The Argentine headed the winner to pile the pressure on Crystal Palace before revealing his boyhood favourite.

“Rio Ferdinand,” he said. “My idol was Kaka but playing with friends I was always centre-back and I’d say ‘I’m Rio Ferdinand’. But I don’t know why.” Foyth has had a memorable start to his Premier League career, conceding two penalties on his debut against Wolves last weekend but bouncing back with the decisive goal on Saturday.

From the glee with which his team-mates celebrated, Foyth is a 0 popular boy in the dressing room.

1 Defiant Roy Hodgson has insisted he will not be intimidated by the Palace fans who booed him on Saturday.

The Eagles manager previously saved Fulham and West Brom from the drop along with his current club last season.

That did not stop panicky Palace fans booing after Hodgson replaced the attacking midfielder Max Meyer with left-sided Schlupp.

“Max didn’t play very well so I just don’t understand what people see sometimes,” said Hodgson.

“He has been given a reputation as a wonderkid and so maybe it was that and people think there is something there.

“But I don’t think anyone watching the game who was studying it can be so surprised that I took Max off.” Jeffrey Meanwhile, Spurs can continue to play ‘home’ fixtures at Wembley this season but attendances will be capped at 51,000, the club have confirmed.

Spurs were scheduled to move into their new stadium in September but are still waiting for a completion date.

They said Wembley will submit a planning application to Brent Council for increased attendances of 62,000, “with additional limited exceptions at 90,000”.
