Don’t make such a song and dance...

-

J NOBODY likes a sore loser and I am afraid that actor Danny John-Jules’s stock will have fallen a long way after his eviction from Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday night. Not because he got his marching orders – that happens to every couple other than the ultimate winners – but the way he reacted on social media immediately afterwards. John-Jules – whom I absolutely love in TV’s comedy murder-mystery Death In Paradise, and whose lithe dancing with partner Amy Dowden on Strictly was remarkable for a man of 58 – was spitting feathers after losing the dance-off against former England cricketer Graeme Swann. He immediately went on-line to wholeheartedly agree with fans who claimed the judges had a “vendetta” against him and gave him the lowest score “on purpose”. (Well of course it was “on purpose”. Everyone’s scores are awarded “on purpose”. On what other basis are points supposed to be given? Guesswork? Lucky dip?) Danny also re-tweeted messages claiming the result was “a stitch-up”, even endorsing one that said that Holby City’s Charles Venn should have been booted off the series instead. Why? He danced far more proficiently on Saturday than did jilted John. He should have had the wisdom and decency to take his defeat like a man, not a whining schoolboy who’s been sent off the pitch during a soccer match. C’mon Danny, it’s a dance contest, not a Crown Court trial. You weren’t sent down for a crime you didn’t commit. Don’t take yourself so seriously! Anyway, the judges weren’t unanimous – Craig voted to save you, didn’t he? I’m disappointed in Danny John-Jules. What’s the expression? Oh yes. My idol has feet of clay.
