Britain threatens to sue Facebook founder over videos glorifying terror

£105billion, did not do more to act against “disinformation” posts – especially from Russia.

Mr Collins also wanted to give Mr Zuckerberg the dossier of depravity the Daily Express passed to him last week.

Facebook said it was taking unprecedented steps to remove hate posts and had taken down a billion fake accounts.

But David Ibsen, executive director of the international Counter Extremism Project (CEP), said: “Facebook’s smokescreen is window dressing.

“Just the same as the claims Mr Zuckerberg made before the US Congress that the company’s algorithms remove 99 per cent of Isis and al-Qaeda online content.”

The Daily Express and the CEP compiled a dossier of hatefilled material found on Facebook – which is only meant to be used by those aged 13 and over.

CEP found that 26 terrorists responsible for global attacks – including London and Manchester – were radicalised, at least partly, on social media.

Mr Collins was shocked by the horrific Facebook content he was shown – some of which had been online for three years.

One Islamic State film shows three executions by children, one aged around four. It was on Facebook for five days and viewed 540 times. Another claims one day IS will invade Britain, shows child soldiers executing a “spy” and a killing by throat-cutting. It had been viewed 635 times. One showing an execution by burning had been viewed 3,100 times.

There were also videos by the banned neo-Nazi National Action – some of whose members have been in court. One of these was viewed 426 times.

Germany became the first country to police social media after a spike in Right-wing racist material. Its new law – which also covers YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat – requires networks to act within 24 hours of being told of illegal content or face fines of up to £40million.

Facebook says 99 per cent of content relating to IS or al-Qaeda is removed before it is flagged. It also said once it has been found the company takes down 83 per cent of uploaded copies within 60 minutes.

Mr Collins said: “We are going to change the law. Mark Zuckerberg has questions to answer.

“The fact he has continually declined to give evidence makes him look like he’s got something to hide.”
