The cen-twin-arians...it’s the UK’s oldest double act
øBRITAIN’S oldest twins will celebrate their 102nd birthday today.
Phyllis Jones and Irene Crump, who live together in their own home, are planning a small get-together to mark their milestone.
They said their secret to a long life is eating fish dishes and enjoying two strong drinks at a time.
Born in 1916, the pair have been alive long enough to see four reigning monarchs and 20 prime ministers, along with two world wars.
Phyllis is the eldest after arriving in the world just 25 minutes before Irene.
Phyllis’s son, Carl, 59, a retired first-aid responder planned a party to mark the special occasion.
He said: “I feel very proud of mum and Aunty Rene. I had to do an online search to confirm it, but Aunty Rene and mum are definitely the oldest twins in Britain.
“I’m yet to contact the Guinness Book Of Records, but I will.
“We’re having a little party for them at home. My mum, Phyllis, has vascular dementia, so we don’t want to take her anywhere that will make her feel uncomfortable.”
The twins have lived together at their home in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, for eight years.
Carl has ruled out residential care for both his mother and aunt. Instead, carers pop in and see the two sisters on a regular basis at the property.
He added: “There’s no chance of them going into sheltered accommodation – they just wouldn’t allow it.
“They should definitely be going for a while.”
