Mooy joy is no mystery to Wagner

- By Dave Armitage

HUDDERSFIELD boss David Wagner hailed Aaron Mooy after two superb strikes shocked Wolves and hauled the Terriers away from the drop zone.

The big screen was advertising a Molineux Murder Mystery when Mooy stuck the knife in after six minutes.

Then with Wolves flickering to life in desperate pursuit of an equaliser, the Aussie midfielder killed them off in the 74th minute.

“He’s extraordinary,” said Wagner. “He works for the team and he’s very calm on the ball. I’m pleased for him.”

It was grisly viewing for Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who had not been expecting to play the role of victim – certainly not at the feet of Mooy, who had not scored this season before yesterday.

Wagner added: “He’s extra-special. He played in Australia for 80 minutes on Tuesday and then performs like that.” Mooy was at the centre of everything after blasting his side into an early lead.

He ripped his first-time shot into the bottom of the net after a brilliant move had exposed Wolves down their right flank.

But while only a goal separated them Wolves were always in with a chance. It was Mooy who put the win beyond doubt.

He bent his free-kick around the wall and managed to squeeze it between keeper Patricio and his left post.

It was no more than Wagner’s men deserved and that is what should worry Nuno.

It is now one point from the past 15 available for his side. It is hardly the time to press the panic button, but this was an off-colour display from Nuno’s men and that is no disrespect to Huddersfield, who bullied them.

On several occasions their forceful approach did not meet with the approval of the home fans – or referee Kevin Friend for that matter.

But it served its purpose and, welded to some neat interplay, managed to throw a number of Wolves players off their strides.

Nuno said: “That was very disappointing.

“We were very bad and when you play badly you lose. This is a job I have to do this week to try to find why.

“We made mistakes, everybody. We didn’t have the ball and when we had it we lost it.

Credit to Huddersfield because they pressed us well. Did they do their homework on us? Well, everybody does their homework.

“We did ours and we had a game plan. Maybe it wasn’t the best one.”

Wolves had no luck, though. Raul Jimenez’s 57th-minute header was judged to be 1.8cm only from crossing the line completely and ruled out.
