Sanchez set to call it quits

- By John Cross

ALEXIS SANCHEZ has been left raging after his latest snub from Jose Mourinho.

Sanchez’s relationship with Mourinho is at breaking point after the Manchester United striker did not even make the bench for the Champions League win over Young Boys on Tuesday.

Sanchez, who is paid in excess of £500,000 a week, has told friends he wants to quit United and has set his heart on a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Mourinho went public with the fact that Sanchez was not injured against Young Boys and there is a belief that was done deliberately to make it clear the 29-year-old was dropped.

Sanchez has managed just one goal in the Premier League this season and his form and confidence has taken a major hit.

Marouane Fellaini, meanwhile, says United fans are within their rights to be frustrated at their side’s stuttering season but hopes his last-gasp strike against Young Boys can prove a turning point.

The midfielder’s winner, which sent United into the Champions League knockout stages, prompted a mass outpouring of relief.

That was obvious on the touchline as Mourinho’s threw a drinks crate on the ground. But with qualification to the last 16 secured, Fellaini insisted United must now build on that and rise in the league, starting this Saturday against Southampton.

“It is frustrating [for fans] but that is football,” said Fellaini. “They want to see good football. But the spirit was good and the team are confident now.

“We have to play positive football and score goals, and show the supporters how we want to make them happy. I hope it is a turning point. We have an important game on Saturday and we have to focus on that.”

Despite Mourinho’s meltdown, he was calm in the dressing room after the game according to defender Chris Smalling.

“He was happy because we got what we wanted,” said Smalling.

“We would have liked to have scored a couple more goals, but at the end of the day it’s about winning and qualifying.”
