Face of Briton killed in Taliban attack
A BRITON who died in a Taliban attack on a security compound in Afghanistan was named last night.
Security firm G4S confirmed the victim was 33-year-old Luke Griffin, from Merseyside, who had worked for the firm for eight years.
A total of six people died when attackers struck the G4S compound in the east of the Afghan capital, Kabul. Dozens more were injured.
A car bomb went off outside the compound late Wednesday and that was followed up by gunmen who got inside the building.
G4S has been offering security in Afghanistan to a number of bodies including non-governmental organisations and corporate clients since 2003. The attacked secure compound is the company’s base for security operations in the country.
Charlie Burbridge, managing director of G4S Risk Management Group, said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm that five of our employees were killed and 32 were injured, five of them seriously, in an unprovoked criminal attack.
“Our thoughts at this difficult time are with the loved ones of those who have died and been injured, and our brave team in Afghanistan.”
