Life in jail for wicked strangler of Lea at allotments

- By John Twomey

AN ASYLUM seeker who strangled an 80-year-old woman after a clash over his allotment was branded “wicked” yesterday as he was jailed for life.

Rahim Mohammadi killed allotment secretary Lea Adri-Soejoko after fearing he was about to be kicked off the plot, the Old Bailey heard.

He broke her neck with a single punch to the head in a “violent loss of temper” before dragging her into a lawn mower shed at the site in Colindale, north London, Judge Richard Marks, QC, said.

Regular opium-user Mohammadi, 42, then throttled her with the flex of an electric mower.

Mrs Adri-Soejoko’s body was found next day when people searching for her heard her mobile phone ringing inside the locked shed.

Volatile

She and her killer had argued several times in the run-up to the murder in February last year as Mohammadi’s volatile behaviour had upset many allotment holders.

The Iranian national of Hackney, north London, was found guilty of murder after a retrial and was ordered to spend at least 19 years in jail.

The judge said: “How bitterly ironic that the place she loved so much – the allotment – was the place she met her death.”

Mrs Adri-Soejoko’s son, Mark, said his mother’s murder has nothing to do with the immigration debate.

“This is about the actions of one wicked individual,” he added.
