Fury is eyeing a £40m jackpot

- From Chris McKenna

TYSON FURY could land a £40million bonanza if he beats Deontay Wilder.

Fury is set to pocket about £8m for the clash, while Wilder will take home close to £12m, but if he produces an upset his purse for the rematch would almost certainly be doubled.

Then, if he managed to win that bout, Fury would pave the way for an all-British showdown with Anthony Joshua.

The negotiations for such a clash would be terse, which means there would be no guarantee it would happen. But if the fight did take place it would be the biggest and richest bout in British boxing history, and Fury would stand to earn close to £25m to face Joshua, the WBO, WBA and IBF title-holder.

Fury claimed he would not return to fight in his homeland again in one of the many interviews he did in the build-up to the Wilder clash. But there is little doubt such a huge payday would be enough to tempt him back to Britain.

The chief issue, though, would be his promoter Frank Warren being able to agree to a deal with Joshua’s man Eddie Hearn. Both Fury and Joshua also have exclusive arrangements with rival TV networks in the UK, complicating a broadcasting deal.

But Fury’s focus is currently on Wilder as he looks to end the American’s 40-fight unbeaten run. The pair clashed at Wednesday’s final press conference but finally get to trade punches tonight.

Fury said: “I have been waiting for this fight since 2012 – I picked him as my third comeback fight.

“Deontay Wilder has been looking for any excuse to get out of this fight now he knows it is on him. But I was not going to lose millions of pounds in fines for hitting him, definitely not, I’m too clever for that.”
