Solihull earn a trip to the seaside

- By Steve Madeley

NON-LEAGUE upstarts Solihull Moors booked themselves another night in the FA Cup as they held former winners Blackpool to a goalless draw.

The National League side managed by former England goalkeeper Tim Flowers were formed just 11 years ago – 54 years after Stanley Matthews’ Blackpool lifted the Cup.

But Moors, created when two West Midlands rivals merged, held their own in this second-round tie to book a replay at Bloomfield Road and will see their name in the third-round draw.

Moors made the early running and had the first attempt when a cross by Jamey Osborne found Liam Daly. He sent a header goalwards but Blackpool keeper Mark Howard made a comfortable save.

The hosts caused more trouble when Danny Wright tried his luck from range and went close.

Blackpool’s first chance fell to Michael Nottingham, who sent a header spinning over.

But the non-League side were still making the running and Darren Carter dragged a shot just wide before they had a goal disallowed. Alex Gudger headed home from a Carter cross but it was offside.

Goalkeeper Ryan Boot gave Flowers a scare when he spilled a cross to Blackpool striker Armand Gnanduillet, who saw his shot deflect wide for a corner. And just before the break Wright had a header saved by Howard.

Blackpool should have led in the second half when Joe Dodoo crossed to Gnanduillet but he fired straight at Boot.

And the home keeper had to make a smart, low save to deny Dodoo after the Blackpool man skipped through.

Carter had a shot stopped as the Moors pushed for a winner. But Boot made a brave save to deny Harry Pritchard late on.
