London tussle will be won and lost…

- INTERVIEW: MATTHEW DUNN

that is a position where they seem to have really benefited from having found in Torreira a dogged midfielder who is going to win the ball back, then keep it simple with one or two-touch football.

For Spurs, on the other hand, Moussa Sissoko is like a new signing. I speak to a lot of football fans – even Spurs ones! – and for a while they have not been happy with him as he has not been playing great.

Too inconsistent.

But on his day, he is a big, strong lad and a very valuable member of the team. He fully deserves his place at the moment and that is great in terms of competition for places.

GOALKEEPERS

There is a big debate to be had about who has got the best goalkeeper in north London. Hugo Lloris is still a very good quality goalkeeper even though he has had a few mistakes this season. But goalkeepers are always going to make those, so I am not too worried about that.

At the same time, Bernd Leno, below, has been very patient at Arsenal and bided his time, training hard. Now he has got his opportunity and he has been excellent.

He has definitely replaced Petr Cech as the No 1 at Arsenal, and the goalkeepers could be very important tomorrow, with both the defences leaking a few chances.

Lloris or Leno could win the game and the Arsenal man is going into the game very confident and playing well.

THE MANAGERS

Unai Emery really looks hard at the opposition every week and he really has the respect of his players.

I was lucky enough to be with Arsenal for part of their pre-season in the summer and you could sense that he was really working them, and the standards were really high. If you drop below those standards, he is all over you. He doesn’t take any nonsense – just ask Mesut Ozil, who he dropped last week.

The Arsenal players are definitely fitter than they were, but you saw what Pochettino can get out of his Spurs players in the first 15 minutes against Chelsea and again against Inter.

Both managers are very young and have big, big futures but the next step for Spurs now is to win a trophy. That is why the Carabao Cup game 17 days later could even be more important for Tottenham than this one.
