Hearing aids put my life back on track

-

TRAVEL addict Julia Jackson leads an adventurous life – setting off for far flung holiday destinations like Antarctica. But it was after flying out to Spain, 15 years ago, that she suddenly suffered hearing loss.

She says: “I couldn’t hear anything in my left ear. When I woke up the next morning, the problem was still there.”

Julia was diagnosed with nerve damage, but she struggled with a string of different devices that she was given to help.

However, she’s finally found the right route to a solution thanks to Amplifon, the global hearing experts.

“Life became much more difficult following my hearing loss,” recalls Julia, who found talking on the phone, watching TV and following family conversations much harder.

It played havoc with her golfing hobby too.

She remembers: “I couldn’t enjoy the social events I took part in because I felt left out of the conversation. It was very isolating.”

‘I could hear things I hadn’t heard in years. Bird song and the sound of rain on the roof’

Then, one day, her son told her about a friend’s successful visit to Amplifon and she decided to make an appointment at her local clinic.

She says: “The audiologist instantly put me at ease and the test was really thorough.”

Taking action

Opting for a free trial of some stateof-the-art hearing aids Julia noticed a difference immediately: “I could hear things I hadn’t heard for years. Bird song, the sound of rain on the roof – even my own footsteps.”

Now, thanks to her new hearing aids her social life is back on track too.

She says: “I can join in with conversations and hear all the gossip I’d been missing!”

Watching TV and talking on the phone are easier thanks to adjustments she can make to her aids using the app on her mobile phone and iPad.

Her hearing aids have transformed her holidays too.

She says: “There’s no way I would have been able to join in the conversations with other travellers on the holiday to Antarctica.”

Julia says the aftercare she received from Amplifon has been superb and adds: “I’d tell anyone to try Amplifon. For me it’s much more than a hearing aid, it’s a lifestyle change – and it’s wonderful.”
