‘He should be called Amir con’

- By Chris McKenna

KELL BROOK has labelled Amir Khan a con man as fears grow their long-awaited clash will never happen.

The Sheffield star also believes his rival has “mugged off” their promoter Eddie Hearn.

Khan, 31, was in talks to face long-time rival Brook, below, but is now weighing up his options after a shock £3.9million offer to face WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford.

The Bolton fighter has been offered the bout against the American at Madison Square Garden in New York on March 23.

Negotiations between Brook and Khan had hit a snag over the latter’s insistence on a clause that neither fighter could put on more than 10lb over the welterweight limit from the weigh-in to the morning of the fight.

But Hearn has warned Khan, who has one fight left on his contract with Matchroom, that the Brook fight has to happen now.

Hearn said it is “50-50” whether the domestic battle will happen now as Brook blasted his foe ahead of his light-middleweight clash with Aussie Michael Zerafa tomorrow at Sheffield Arena.

“Amir Khan is a con man, they should call him Amir Con,” said Brook. “He has mugged you off, Eddie.

“This is his last fight under Matchroom. I thought this fight was nailed on. He shook my hand and looked me dead in the eyes at Tony Bellew’s last fight and said, ‘We will fight next’.

“What can I do? I’ve bent over backwards. I’ve said I’ll come to welterweight, we’ve not even talked about rehydration. It has never got that far, we need him to come to the table to get it on.

“I’ve done everything I can for the fans but he has turned his back on the fans.

“He keeps saying that I have but I think everybody knows it’s him that’s running off.”
