We can’t wait to leave Wembley says Rose

- By Darren Lewis

DANNY Rose says Tottenham players sympathise with supporters fed up of playing at Wembley.

The England full-back was speaking after his side beat Southampton in front of a half-empty national stadium. Fans unhappy with delays to the new White Hart Lane are now voting with their feet. Rose said: “It’s just not nice any more. It’s lost its…I don’t feel it’s an honour to play at Wembley. We’re all itching to get in the new stadium and hopefully it’s not too much longer.”

Just over 33,000 fans made it there on Wednesday, the lowest crowd of Tottenham’s temporary tenure.

Despite that, Mauricio Pochettino’s side won 3-1 with goals from Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min to move back up into third in the table. But Rose said: “The atmosphere is a bit flat.

“I obviously sympathise with the fans, travelling further to come to Wembley, but it’s the lowest attendance since we’ve been at Wembley. That speaks volumes.”

Rose is the latest Tottenham player to admit to being disillusioned at playing at Wembley. Hugo Lloris said last month being effectively

“homeless” was taking its toll on the squad. Spurs, eight points off leaders Manchester City, hoped to be in their new stadium by the start of this term.

But delays to the £1billion project saw them admit defeat and accept playing at Wembley for the remainder of 2018. The club have also taken out an option on Wembley until the end of the season.

Rose has also warned Arsenal their celebratory selfies after Sunday’s derby win have given Spurs just the incentive they need for their Carabao Cup quarter-final on December 19.

Gunners players took to social media after boss Unai Emery had inspired them to a 4-2 win at the Emirates.

Rose said: “Seeing the Arsenal players do that after the game was obviously frustrating and I’m already looking forward to the reverse fixture when we get them back here or at the new stadium.

“It’s the quarter-final so we don’t need much more motivation than that. It will be the first chance to win a trophy if we get through that.”
