Farage’s new party ‘to fight biggest battle’

-

NIGEL Farage is expected to make a major step towards setting up a new Brexit-backing party this week.

The high-profile MEP is planning to unveil a new grouping in the European Parliament following the split in Ukip. An announcement could come as early as today.

He confirmed yesterday that talks and fundraising are already under way about the possibility of turning the organisation into an electoral force.

Mr Farage insisted fighting Brexit was his “destiny” after the widespread criticism of Theresa May’s deal with Brussels.

“I am not going to lie down and watch it go down the plug hole, I couldn’t do that. And I won’t do that,” he said.

“I sense within me I have not fought my biggest battle yet – that is how it feels.”

The former Ukip leader said a new, unequivocally pro-Leave party may be needed if a new round of European Parliament elections is held in the UK.

EU officials are understood to have made preparations for elections for a new contingent of British MEPs if the EU’s Article 50 departure process is extended.

“If there are European Parliament elections I am standing and I am thinking about vehicles do to that,” Mr Farage said.

“I will be looking to get some high-profile figures in from across the business and political spectrum.”
