Corrie star Sally: My family just can’t bear to watch me suffering prison hell

- By Michael Knowles

CORONATION STREET star Sally Dynevor has admitted her daughter Hattie, 15, avoids watching the soap after her character was wrongly jailed.

The show’s Sally Metcalfe is behind bars after Duncan Radfield swindled her and her mayor’s charity fund out of £40,000.

Fans were left furious when Sally was jailed for four years for crimes she did not commit.

But the star, 55, told OK! magazine: “Hattie can’t watch me in Corrie because it’s too upsetting seeing me in prison.

“She said she won’t watch it again until the story’s finished. I’ve had so many people coming up to me, saying: ‘I’m so sad about Sally, I cried when she was sentenced. I hope she’s not in there for Christmas.’ It has been very touching.

“We have a Corrie girls’ WhatsApp group and one of them sent me a story about a man who has had ‘Save our Sally’ tattooed on his leg. I was thinking of his poor wife. It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. It’s very nice though.” The actress has told how a previous storyline involving Metcalfe suffering from breast cancer prompted her to get checked in 2009. The mother-of-three had both chemotherapy and radiotherapy when the disease was discovered. She said: “It was unbelievable. It’s a period in my life that I can’t quite believe happened.

“We always say that life mirrors art on Corrie but it was really strange. I just refer to it as a blip. We have to move on. I was 46 and I always thought breast cancer happened to much older women. If it wasn’t for Coronation Street I never would have gone to the doctor.

“I remember saying [to the doctor]: ‘I’m sure it’s nothing, I’m sure I’m wasting your time.”

Mrs Dynevor also praised her husband Tim for his support. She said: “He’s my best friend. “I tell him everything. Being open, honest and forgiving is important and not finding an argument in anything.

“Because we talk we don’t find anything to argue about.”
