Susanna: Secret of my slimline new look

- By Giles Sheldrick

GOOD Morning Britain host Susanna Reid says she is in the shape of her life after going teetotal.

The mother-of-three, who turned 48 this week, has not touched a drop for more than three months and is contemplating her first booze-free Christmas. Susanna has also given up snacking and cut out bloating carb-laden food as she shed an incredible one-and-a-half stone. And she now intends to keep it up. “It is more than 100 days since I last touched alcohol and I feel clearer, sharper and more energetic than ever,” she said.

Healthier

“Yes, I wanted to shift some weight and as part of that I gave up drink. It’s certainly helped me – not least because I have to get up so early and it doesn’t help when you feel as if you are in a constant state of jet lag.

“I’ve stopped snacking between meals and I am eating more sensibly too. But I wanted to do it for me and I am glad I did. I didn’t want to be at the top end of my BMI and, yes, I do feel much happier and healthier.

“Will it continue? I have absolutely no idea, especially as Christmas is coming up. Christmas always throws a spanner in the works and I’ll never say never. It might come to Christmas Day and someone pours me a large glass of Bucks Fizz – or on New Year’s Eve I might fancy some vodka shots.

“But then again I might feel like I can keep going. The truth is I don’t know, but at the moment it’s working for me. I feel great and that’s all that matters.”

Since staying dry Susanna has been the butt of jokes from GMB co-host Piers Morgan, 53. He has questioned her lifestyle choices, pointing out that she does not exercise and she doesn’t drink, asking what exactly it is that she does away from the studio.

In 2014 the Strictly Come Dancing finalist split with Dominic Cotton, 51, her partner of 16 years and father of sons Sam, 16, Finn, 14, and Jack, 13. She is now dating Steve Parish, 53, co-owner of her beloved football club Crystal Palace.

She said: “I have a great job and a good life, it’s all good news.” Susanna told how co-presenters gave her alcoholfree drinks as birthday presents.

Charlotte Hawkins, 43, gave her a bottle of Nosecco and Piers gave her a bottle of non-alcoholic sparkling wine. “Even though it’s poison to him, I’ll have that at Christmas,” she said.

“He might have joked that I went on a kale smoothie bender for my birthday but, honestly, I’m feeling brilliant.”
