I loved tucking into triple helpings for plumped up film role
OLIVIA COLMAN says she loved tucking into triple portions in order to star as the overweight Queen Anne in her new movie The Favourite.
The award-winning actress has revealed she shied away from wearing a fat suit – and instead piled on two-and-a-half stone in a couple of months.
Colman went full method for the critically-acclaimed movie, which is a favourite for success at the Oscars in February.
The Night Manager and Peep Show actress said: “I had to put on a lot of weight for it, so that was quite fun.
“She was very big and he [director Yorgos Lanthimos] wanted to see that on camera… and I didn’t want to use prosthetics, so I spent a few months eating, which was quite enjoyable but then became quite depressing. Because it goes on so easily but, gosh, it doesn’t come off as easily!

“I ended up putting on about two-and-a-half stone. There was no technique.”
Asked how she did it she laughed: “Loosely, whatever you eat all the time – and three lots of each thing.”
The mother of two was speaking in an interview for the THR podcast in America.
The Favourite has bagged five Golden Globe nominations, including best actress for Colman, best supporting role for co-stars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, and best motion picture screenplay.
It is now the bookmakers’ favourite to sweep the Oscars.
Colman is proud to have three female leads in a movie.
“It’s about bloody time, isn’t it? They are both brilliant.
“And so we had a lovely time just three women together. It was really supportive and lovely.”
And critics enjoyed seeing the period piece filled with laughs.
Colman added: “We had three weeks of rehearsal time of being together… playing and mucking around and making fools of ourselves. So we ended up knowing each other and not being embarrassed.”
