Do as I say Ozil or you will pay

- By Neil McLeman

UNAI EMERY has told Mesut Ozil that his commitment is more important than the size of his salary, as the Gunners boss claimed he does not even know the wages of his Arsenal stars. over. “Some matches we need different things tactically and individually,” said the Spaniard. “It’s not only for him.

“For me, the player’s salary is not important, I don’t know the player’s salary because for me they are the same. Every player, I want to give them the same conversation or the same decision for play or not play.

“The most important thing is the commitment.

And then when

I decide they are not to play because of a tactical decision.

“If you are asking that this is different because one is with more salary and the other less salary, for me it’s the same.

“The most important thing is to be OK training every day with good behaviour and good commitment and giving us their quality and then to be OK for match day.

“Our focus is only the match tomorrow, with 18 players that are in the squad. One is Mesut. He is OK for tomorrow. I trust in him, I trust in our team, our players.

“We are going to play. That is my focus. I don’t think how they are going to think outside.

“I want every player with a good

mentality to help us and give us their characteristics and quality. We need Mesut Ozil. Does he have a future here. Yes, why not?”

An injury to Henrikh Mkhitaryan could open the way for Ozil’s recall today.

But the message from Emery was clear. No one is guaranteed a starting place and Ozil will have to work hard to earn his spot, with the Spaniard changing tactics as well as personnel.

“When you play with two strikers then it is more difficult to play with a No10 player,” said Emery.

“It depends on how you can line up your team in the positioning. And you need players with quality, with intensity, players who are faster, players who are calm with the ball. You need players defensively and offensively. We need different opinions tactically for one match. But we need the ball tomorrow.”

Emery has held talks with Ozil but grouped him yesterday with other fringe players frustrated at their lack of game-time.

“Every player wants to play and be OK to help the team when we need,” he said.

“The frustration is the same for everybody when they didn’t play in a match. I spoke with every player, with Mesut, with Carl Jenkinson, with Mo Elneny, with Petr Cech, with Auba (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang). With every player.”
