Anne, 68, is hardest working royal by far
PRINCESS Anne spent more days on official royal engagements than any other member of her family in 2018, according to analysis of the Court Circular.
The Princess Royal, who at 68 is well past retirement age, worked more than 180 days, while each of her brothers Princes Charles, Edward and Andrew were on duty on 160, 170, and 140 days respectively.
With the Duke of Edinburgh retired and the Queen attending engagements on more than
120 days, their children are shouldering the bulk of duties, a Sunday newspaper found.
Her Majesty’s grandchildren and their partners are still doing fewer engagements than the generation in the middle.
The Court Circular, the monarchy’s official record of duties, shows the Duke of Cambridge worked on about 120 days and the Duke of Sussex just over 90 days. Their wives managed to work for a combined total of 100 days, though it should be remembered that Kate was on maternity leave for about six months after the birth of Prince Louis in April and Meghan only joined the “Firm” in May.
In spite of retiring from an official programme of duties, Prince Philip did record six official engagements in 2018.
There is no agreed measure of how hard each member of the Royal Family should work but public duties are only part of their load.
The Queen deals with government papers in her red boxes every day of the year except for Christmas Day and Easter Sunday.
Charles’s sons have suggested that he is a workaholic who spends hours at his desk and has even been known to fall asleep on his paperwork.
